Snow Day for the Newkirk's!
Well, not actually a snow day, but a day off that invokes the feelings of a snow day for me.
I feel like it is a snow day for a few reasons.
1. It was unexpected.
We have had an outbreak of sand fleas at the school where I work. No, this has nothing to do with hygiene or cleanliness, but more to do with the hot, dry summer and our big grassy areas that surround the building. And so we're treating for them. And we can't be back in the building until Monday morning!
2. The weather outside is frightful.
Okay, that's a bit of an exaggeration. But it is cold, and rainy, and the PERFECT sleeping in, throw some stew in the crockpot, and clean the house weather. The sleeping in part didn't work out so well because it's hard for me to fall back asleep when I'm up. However, the stew part is in the works and the cleaning part...well, that brings me to my next point.
3. My house is a ROYAL disaster!
The last few weeks have been the kind of weeks that you just go from work to home to photos to dance class to PTO to home to church to home to church to work to blah, blah, blah.
These things are wonderful parts of our lives and usually only take up a night or two of the week. However, every once in a while, it feels like every night is packed with something.
And on those weeks, we try to tread water at home and hope for the best.
We come home from one activity and drop stuff off, just to hop in the Tahoe and go off to another activity. Throw in a sick kid and a sick husband this week and it makes for a crazy house and a tired family.
But then...we got sand fleas. And we got a snow day. A gift to me for a chance to straighten myself out before we continue through this busy first quarter.
Thank you, Jesus.
So today, I'm starting in one room and moving through the house. I'm doing the quick pick-up, not the decluttering drawers and closets pick-up. Making a clean sweep, so we can have some clean floors and some empty flat surfaces on our furniture.
And then...I will be putting out my fall decorations that I've been planning to put out since Labor Day.
Happy Snow Day, everyone!
